Why Is ProFlow Urethane Backed Grass Pet Friendly?

Pet Turf’s specialist woven backing has been specifically designed for the use of dogs. It has been made up of four layers, including two heavy gauge materials to speed up the flow of moisture through the grass and into the ground. The backing is completely porous unlike other types of backing, preventing the build up bacteria and ammonia. Ammonia, which is produced from pet waste, creates a nasty odour which is impossible to get rid of once it arrives. Pet Turf and its specialist backing prevent this build up, leaving your artificial lawn looking and smelling fresh. Leaving you with a longer lasting, safer artificial lawn for dogs. Not all woven backed grass is suitable for pets, be sure to double check that it has been created for the use of dogs. The answer to the question ‘Can Dogs Pee and Poop on Artificial Grass’ is yes, Pet Turf will withstand to pet waste!

Why Latex Backed Grass is Not Suitable for Pets

Latex backed artificial grass is in no way suitable for pets. The backing is not porous and will hold any moisture, creating a build up of harmful bacteria and ammonia. The build up of ammonia creates a nasty, unwanted odour that will eventually ruin the artificial grass and need replacing. The harmful bacteria that is held on top of the grass can become dangerous for your pets and for anyone else using the lawn.

As well as Pet Turf’s pet friendly ProFlow backing, our installations follow a 4 Phase System. The installation and materials used is extremely important when installing an artificial lawn for dogs. Incorrect installation and unsuitable materials can lead to an artificial lawn which is not pet friendly, which will eventually become unusable and need replacing. Artificial grass is a big investment which is why it is important to ensure you research the company and choose a reputable one.

Pet Turf 4 Phase System

Phase 1: Sub-base

Creating a strong and sturdy subbase is crucial in ensuring the longevity of any artificial lawn. We use a specialist limestone hardcore to create a level, long lasting base for the artificial grass to be installed on. This should be compacted to create a sturdy surface ready for the drainage system to be installed.

When installing a pet friendly artificial lawn, the drainage system is the most important aspect. A poor drainage system can lead to a build up of moisture which creates bacteria and a nasty odour. Granite dust is the most suitable material to create an effective drainage system for the artificial grass. Grano dust is a strong yet porous material, allowing moisture to freely flow through into the ground below. Other unsuitable materials such as sand are not porous materials. These materials will hold moisture leading to a build up of ammonia which will eventually rot the artificial grass and become unusable due to the bacteria and unbearable odour.

Phase 2: Laying the Turf

Phase 2 is laying the ProFlow Urethane backed artificial grass on top of the compacted drainage system. The grass should be fixed down using U shaped pins which have been designed for artificial grass installations. The pins are discrete and extremely hard wearing, giving you peace of mind that your furry friend cannot dig them up.

Phase 3: Zeolite Infill

Pet Turf requires a Zeolite Infill for the pet friendly effectiveness to work to its full potential. Our Zeolite Infill has been designed specifically for pet friendly artificial lawns. The infill is to be spread across the artificial lawn to allow its crystallisation process to work. The infill crystallises any moisture until it is washed away by rainwater. This process kills harmful bacteria and keeps the lawn free form ammonia and nasty odour.

Phase 4: Enzyme Cleaner

At Pet Turf we use an Enzyme Cleaner which has been designed specially for pet friendly artificial lawns. The cleaner is a fragrance-free cleaner which is safe for pets, unlike other cleaners which are high in chemicals and fragrance. These products can damage dog’s sensory system which is extremely harmful. The cleaner attacks harmful bacteria creating a clean, safer lawn for the entire family.
